Acoustic Wavefront Tracing in Inhomogeneous, Moving Media

چکیده
We extend the Huygens wavefront tracing algorithm, which is a part of an open source Madagascar project, to sound propagation in inhomogeneous, moving media and apply it to a series of benchmark tasks. One set of tasks admits exact analytic solutions and serves the purpose of validation of the new algorithm. Another set of calculations demonstrates applicability of the algorithm to the studies of wavefront dynamics and stability in ocean and atmospheric acoustics. The method is based on a system of differential equations equivalent to the eikonal equation, but formulated in the ray

Tracing Three-Dimensional Acoustic Wavefronts in Inhomogeneous, Moving Media
We present a numerical implementation of an alternative formulation of the geometrical, or ray, acoustics, where wavefronts rather than rays are the primary objects. Rays are recovered as a byproduct of wavefront tracing. The alternative formulation of the geometrical acoustics is motivated, first, by the observation that wavefronts are often more stable than rays at long-range sound propagatio...
متن کاملManipulating Acoustic Wavefront by Inhomogeneous Impedance and Steerable Extraordinary Reflection
We unveil the connection between the acoustic impedance along a flat surface and the reflected acoustic wavefront, in order to empower a wide wariety of novel applications in acoustic community. Our designed flat surface can generate double reflections: the ordinary reflection and the extraordinary one whose wavefront is manipulated by the proposed impedance-governed generalized Snell's law of ...

In transversely isotropic media with a vertical axis of symmetry (VTI media), we represent the image in vertical time, as opposed to depth, thus eliminating the inherent ambiguity of resolving the vertical P-wave velocity from surface seismic data. In this new (x±t)-domain, the ray tracing and eikonal equations are completely independent of the vertical P-wave velocity, with the condition that ...

The evolution of a wavefront propagating in a two dimensional inhomogeneous isotropic medium with sound speed F = F (x, y) is governed by the Eikonal equation (EE) |∇T | = 1
متن کاملParabolic Equation for Nonlinear Acoustic Wave Propagation in Inhomogeneous Moving Media
A new parabolic equation is derived to describe the propagation of nonlinear sound waves in inhomogeneous moving media. The equation accounts for diffraction, nonlinearity, absorption, scalar inhomogeneities (density and sound speed), and vectorial inhomogeneities (flow). A numerical algorithm employed earlier to solve the KZK equation is adapted to this more general case. A two-dimensional ver...
